SAN FRANCISCO – The final is set at the inaugural U.S. Amateur Four-Ball, and the matchup features a pair of mid-ams whom many folks thought might be there at week’s end … against a pair of mid-ams whom few know very much about.
Nathan Smith, a four-time U.S. Mid-Am champion, and his partner and Walker Cup teammate, Todd White, will take on the North Carolina tandem of Sherrill Britt and Greg Earnhardt in this afternoon’s 18-hole final at Olympic Club’s famed Lake Course.
White made a 40-footer for birdie at the 17th hole to lift him and Smith to a 2-and-1 victory over high schoolers Sam Burns and Austin Connelly in one morning semifinal; in the other, Britt and Earnhardt took on one of their good buddies from home, reigning U.
