UNLV junior Taylor Montgomery posted a 3-under 69 to share the individual lead with Arizona State’s Jon Rahm and Florida’s Sam Horsfield after the first round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Monday.
Montgomery, competing in his second event this spring, played his final nine holes to 3 under to sit atop the leaderboard in one of the most competitive fields of any non-postseason event this season.
Rahm, a senior for the Sun Devils, eagled his last hole to move into a tie with Montgomery and the Florida freshman Horsfield.
Sean Crocker, Shintaro Ban, Federico Zucchetti and Alberto Sanchez are all T4 at 2 under.
