Welcome back to East Lake Golf Club. The site of this week’s Tour Championship, six miles east of downtown Atlanta, has been home to the season finale since 2004 and, since 2007, the site of the FedEx Cup playoff wrap-up.
This year’s edition also could decide the Player of the Year race between Jason Day and Jordan Spieth, who are Nos. 1 and 3, respectively, in the Official World Golf Ranking. Look for World No. 2 Rory McIlroy and No. 5 Rickie Fowler as favorites among the select 30-man field of FedEx Cup finalists.
The par-70, 7,307-yard layout offers plenty of room off the tees for bombers, with the difficulty at the greens formed by well-defined target areas: greens within greens divided by modest ridges.
