Thunderstorms halt play at U.S. Women's Open

LANCASTER, Pa. – The first round of the U.S. Women’s Open was suspended for the day due to heavy thunderstorms at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Karrie Webb and Marina Alex were the leaders in the clubhouse at 4-under-par 66 when play was halted. Fifty-five players were unable to complete their rounds. The USGA is still determining what time players will return Friday morning to finish the first round and when the second round will begin.

The USGA first blew its weather horns at 6:03 p.m. due to the approach of “dangerous weather.” Hard rain and lightning followed.
