Sullivan shows 'major' promise in nine-shot Portugal Masters win

How impressive is Andy Sullivan, the new Portugal Masters champion? So impressive that recently retired R&A chief executive Peter Dawson tipped him to do well in this year’s U.S. Open, even though the Englishman was making his debut in America’s national championship.

Sullivan didn’t justify Dawson’s faith when he missed the cut at Chambers Bay, but the former chief executive couldn’t be faulted for being impressed by Sullivan’s game. Three wins in only his fourth full European season is proof that the man from Nuneaton, England has the game to contend in future majors.

The 2011 Walker Cup player added Portugal to victories earlier this year in the South African Open Championship and Joburg Open.
