Sports Briefing | Golf: Golfer Charlie Sifford’s Relatives Indicted

Craig and Sandra Sifford, the son and the former daughter-in-law of the golf pioneer Charlie Sifford, were indicted on charges they stole more than $1 million from him. For four years starting in 2010, they spent the money on travel, dining, clothes, jewelry and landscaping, the Ohio attorney general’s office and the Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office said.

Craig and Sandra Sifford, who divorced a few months ago, were charged in Common Pleas Court with crimes including theft, money laundering and unauthorized use of property. Sandra Sifford was also charged with receiving stolen property.

In 1961, Charlie Sifford became the first black golfer to earn full-time playing privileges on the PGA Tour.
