Schmitz halts Masters donations after raising $25K

U.S. Mid-Amateur champ Sammy Schmitz has stopped accepting donations to help fund his Masters preparation after raising more than $25,000 in less than three days.

Schmitz, 35, lives in River Falls, Wis., and is a regional director for a health care company. He had planned to put his clubs away for the winter before a surprise Mid-Am victory earlier this month earned him a spot in the Masters.

His wife, Natalie, launched a GoFundMe page on behalf of her husband over the weekend, asking for donations to help support his practice and trips to Augusta National, where he can now play practice rounds throughout the winter.
