Sacred Heart University buys home golf course

Sacred Heart University finalized a purchase 150 acres of land, which included the 18-hole Great River Golf Course for $6 million, according to ctpost.com.

The Sacred Heart golf team already uses the course to practice on, and, while the school wants to work with the town to get cross country and tennis on the land, the university says the golf course will remain and there are no plans to build anything else.

The school said it plans to apply to add a golf management program, which the acreage will surely help to do.

“A golf management program, for which we will seek PGA approval, would be the only one in metropolitan New York and New England — one of the most saturated areas on earth for golf courses,” said SHU President John J.
