Ryder Cup: U.S. and European Golfers Face a Challenge at Bethpage Black

Bethpage Black, one of the toughest courses in the United States, along with passionate fans, is the site of the biennial event between America and Europe.

The Bethpage Black course, where 40,000 to 50,000 fans each day are estimated to visit for this year’s Ryder Cup. “There was this sense from the beginning that this one was going to be hard to wrap our hands around,” Bryan Karns, the Ryder Cup director for the P.G.A. of America, said of preparing for the tournament.Credit...Bruce Bennett/Getty Images
