Russian Pavlov stumbles to a 17 on first hole at Lyoness Open

Russia’s Andrey Pavlov could have used a few breakfast balls Friday to start his second round of the European Tour’s Lyoness Open.

Pavlov hit six balls into the water en route to a 17 on the 506-yard par-5 first hole at Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg, Austria.

As any high-handicapper would know, that set the tone for a rough day. Pavlov shot 90, though he did make two birdies on the back nine. And that was after he posted a 1-under 17 in Thursday’s first round.

Pavlov, 28, who is No. 1,598 in the Official World Golf Ranking, was competing on a sponsor exemption.
