Rory torches Muirfield: Two tries to get it right is 'obscene'

ORLANDO, Fla. – Muirfield is officially back in line to once again host The Open, but Rory McIlroy isn’t pleased that it took the club two tries to get its membership policy correct.

The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers voted Tuesday to allow female members for the first time in the club’s 273-year history, with 80.2 percent of members supporting the change. A two-thirds’ majority was required for approval, and the measure received only 64 percent of support during an initial vote in May.

Speaking at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, McIlroy was candid with his reaction to the vote, and the fact that a second ballot was even required.
