R&A confident it can avoid rules snafu at British Open

TROON, Scotland – There won’t be a Dustin Johnson incident at this week’s British Open, according to R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers.

Slumbers, who took up his post from Peter Dawson last year, said the R&A has procedures in place to make sure no competitor suffers the same fate as Johnson did during last month’s U.S. Open. During the final round at Oakmont, Johnson was deemed to have moved his ball on the fifth green, but wasn’t alerted to that possibility until the 12th hole, and his fate wasn’t decided until after he finished his final round.
