On several occasions, I’ve heard Titleist’s Scotty Cameron compare his putters to custom jewelry. In his mind, cultured appearance goes hand-in-hand with performance.
Austie Rollinson, principal designer for Odyssey, chuckles when he explains the origins of the Versa putter line. Versa features a combination of black sections and white sections. The result is an artistic design that emphasizes alignment.
“There was a kind of serendipity with Versa,” Rollinson said. “We were working on a multi-material putter with steel, urethane and tungsten. It didn’t really pan out, because it would be extremely expensive.
