PGA Cup up for grabs with 8-8 tie

SAN MARTIN, Calif. — A split in four foursomes matches Saturday afternoon at CordeValle produced an 8-8 tie at the 27th PGA Cup, giving Great Britain and Ireland a chance to secure its first victory on American soil.

Begun in 1973 and played biennially, the PGA Cup is an international match-play competition featuring a team of club and teaching professionals from the United States against Great Britain and Ireland. The U.S. has never lost at home, leads the overall series 17-5-4, and has dropped just one match since 1984.

Great Britain and Ireland teams are 0-11-2 in the United States and, with the exception of the two ties, have been closer than three points only once in matches played away from home.
