Pete Cowen, Henrik Stenson’s longtime coach, helps get pupil over major-championship hump

Now Pete Cowen can die in peace. Or at least, as the 65-year-old golf instructor put it, “retire.”

There is an old saying that no one wins a major alone. Henrik Stenson, the Champion Golfer of the Year, will be the first to say that he has stood on many shoulders and accepted many helping hands. None, perhaps, more so than Cowen, his longtime coach.

Stenson started working with Cowen in 2001. Cowen has coached several players to major championship glory, including Louis Oosthuizen and Darren Clarke, who won British Open titles in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
