Oklahoma State wins The Carmel Cup to open college season

Final scores

The 2015-16 college golf season is officially underway, and Oklahoma State started it off with a win at The Carmel Cup.

The Cowboys were led by a couple of underclassmen at Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links as sophomore Sam Stevens and redshirt freshman Nick Heinen shot 1-under 215 at the 54-hole event, tying for fourth. Oklahoma State finished at 5-under 1,075 in the play-six-count-five format, six shots ahead of NCAA semifinalist Georgia for its 13th season-opening win since 1973.

Both of the powerhouse programs managed without their top players, as Oklahoma State's Jordan Niebrugge and Georgia's Lee McCoy are away in preparation for next week's Walker Cup in Lancashire, England.
