No Tiger, no Lefty?
No worries, either, because truth be told, neither Tiger Woods nor Phil Mickelson has been much of a WGC Match Play Championship factor in recent years. Mickelson, who officially withdrew from this year’s competition Sunday, hasn’t played it since 2011 and he’s never made it past the third round.
As for Woods, who didn’t qualify for the first time since the tournament came on line in 1999, his recent form makes it difficult to recall that he’s a three-time winner of the event. Since the third of those wins, in 2008, Woods has lost twice in the first round, twice in the second round and skipped it twice.
