NCAA penalties starting to affect SMU in recruiting

It has been three days since the NCAA announced penalties on the SMU men's golf program.

The penalties, which included a postseason ban for the 2015-16 season and scholarship restrictions, were handed down after SMU was found to have committed multiple violations under former head coach Josh Gregory that involved recruiting and unethical conduct.

Now, the news has started to affect the Mustangs in recruiting.

Joshua Sedeno, a 2016 commit from Roseville, Calif., told Golfweek on Thursday evening that he has decided to withdraw his verbal commitment to the Mustangs.

"I discussed with my team of people and we all agreed SMU isn't the best choice for my future," said Sedeno, who expects to pick another school within the next month.
