Mickelson drops down U.S. Open leaderboard on Day 2

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Phil Mickelson didn’t totally shoot himself out of the U.S. Open on Friday, but he made the task much harder with a 4-over 74 in the second round.

Mickelson, 45, came to Chambers Bay as one of the favorites because of his length, imagination and a putter that seemed to warm up after a T-3 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic last week in Memphis, Tenn.
