McGowan takes lead in second round of Joburg Open

Ross McGowan fired a course record 9-under 62 in the second round of the Joburg Open at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club to take a three-stroke lead.

McGowan made two eagles and six birdies to pull three shots ahead of Felipe Aguilar, Jean Hugo, Haydn Porteous and Anthony Wall.

The top three finishers in the field who aren’t already exempt for the British Open will get exemptions into the major tournament.

First-round leader Justin Walters fell into T8 with a 2-under 69. Walters sits at 9 under for the tournament.

In just his 8th event as a pro Paul Dunne fired a bogey-free round of 63 and moved into the top 10.
