LPGA veterans find second career as college coaches

Orlando, Fla. – Kate Golden walked briskly to the 13th tee box at Eagle Creek Golf Club with yardage book in hand. Only it wasn’t a caddie nearby carrying the clubs. It was Texas junior Haley Mills, Golden’s charge for all three rounds of the UCF Challenge.

“I honestly feel like I’ve gone from one dream job to another,” said Golden, who spent 18 years on the LPGA before eventually returning to her Texas roots as an associate coach.

When Golden played for the Longhorns in the late ’80s, coaches weren’t allowed to give advice during competition.
