Low Scores at the U.S. Senior Open; Kirk Triplett Leads; Hale Irwin Shoots Age

THE SECOND ROUND IS IN PROGRESS at the U.S. Senior Open at Salem Country Club in Peabody, Mass.

Kirk Triplett is the current leader at 11 under after a 67 on Friday. Triplett was the first-round leader with a blistering 62. (Par is 70 for the championship.)

Doug Garwood is two behind Triplett after rounds of 64 and 67.

Triplett's 8-under 62 tied Loren Roberts (2006, third round) for the lowest score in USGA Open championship history. Triplett made six birdies and one eagle – holing his 115-yard approach for eagle with a 9-iron on the par-4 fourth hole.
