Knee injury forces Langer to withdraw from playoff opener (The Associated Press)

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) -- Bernhard Langer withdrew from the PGA Tour Champions' playoff opener Friday because of a left knee injury.

The 59-year-old German star pulled out before teeing off at Sherwood Country Club in the PowerShares QQQ Championship. He re-aggravated the injury at home doing routine spinning, had an MRI on Monday and wasn't able to play a practice round.

Langer leads the 50-and-over tour with four victories and has wrapped up the season money title with $2,697,459. He tops the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs standings, and has a big enough advantage over second-place Miguel Angel Jimenez that he will keep the No.
