J.B. Holmes penalized two strokes for 'serious breach' of rules

J.B. Holmes got off to a rugged start in the final round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship when he was penalized two strokes on No. 1 for a “serious breach” of rules.

Holmes hit his tee shot into a water hazard on the par 5 at Trump National Doral Miami and proceeded to take an “opposite margin” drop.

Under Rule 26-1c (“Relief for Ball in Water Hazard”) of the Rules of Golf, to be granted an “opposite margin” drop, the player must drop within two club lengths of the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard, no closer to the hole.
