In Canada, Homegrown Golfers Are Fine-Tuned for Pro Circuits

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — In June, when Brooke Henderson became the first Canadian to win an L.P.G.A. major championship in 48 years, she unknowingly stoked a fire among her compatriots in the game.

Many remembered Henderson, a 19-year-old from Ontario, as the precocious little girl who used to tag along behind them on courses throughout Canada. Now, the teenager was the one setting the standard for everybody else to follow.

That national pride was stirred again last month when Mackenzie Hughes of Ontario won the RSM Classic on the PGA Tour. Like Henderson, he had been groomed in Canada’s developmental program.
