More than a decade ago, John Means turned Minnesota from a perennial Big Ten doormat into a national contender in men's golf. Now, in his fifth season as Idaho's head coach, Means has the Vandals on a similar path.
Idaho qualified for its first NCAA Regional since 2000 after winning the Big Sky Conference Championship on April 29. The Vandals earned the No. 10 seed for the NCAA Rancho Santa Fe (Calif.) Regional, April 14-16 at The Farms Golf Club.
"It's amazing the parallels between my teams at Minnesota and this team," Means said. "At Minnesota, my strength was being able to recruit players that other teams didn't recruit and build them into championship-caliber players.
