Coastal drama awaits PGA Tour pros this week at Torrey Pines

Torrey Pines’ South Course, home to Tiger Woods’ iconic victory at the 2008 U.S. Open and a staple on the PGA Tour calendar since 1968, returns to homes screens this week for the Farmers Insurance Open.

The coastal San Diego site is something like comfort food, familiar not only to TV viewers but also to the public golfers who log upwards of 50,000 rounds a year on this municipally-owned and -managed facility. It’s part of a 36-hole property sitting 16 miles north of downtown San Diego, on cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The facility’s North Course, co-host of the event during the first two rounds, is slated for a major overhaul by Tom Weiskopf.
