Clubhouse at Oakland Hills, site of several men's majors, catches fire

A massive fire broke out Thursday morning in the clubhouse at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township, Michigan.

Details are still emerging, and this story will be updated as they are reported.

Oakland Hills has hosted six U.S. Opens, three PGA Championships, two U.S. Amateurs and the 2004 Ryder Cup. Dubbed “The Monster,” Ben Hogan won his 1951 U.S. Open there with a 7-over total.

The course most recently hosted a major championship in 2008 (the PGA, won by Padraig Harrington). Led by architect Gil Hanse, the South Course underwent a two-year restoration, beginning in 2019, to attract future majors.
