Christina Kim returns to Lorena Ochoa's event, where inspiration runs deep

For many fans, Christina Kim’s emotional victory at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational was the most meaningful of 2014. To see Kim, wearing that fabulous sombrero, climb out of the valley of depression and experience such an overflow of joy, well, it was the kind of moment that transcends sports.

The fact that it happened on Ochoa’s watch made it all the more special. Kim, who hadn’t won in nine years, said she tried to channel her “inner Lorena” that week. Ochoa always has had a way of inspiring those around her. I.K. Kim was so moved by the effort’s of Ochoa’s foundation that when she won the LOI in 2010, she donated her entire winner’s check of $225,000 to charity.
