Choi flirts with U.S. Women's Open scoring record, but comes up short

LANCASTER, Pa. – Chella Choi’s 30-foot birdie putt to break the U.S. Women’s Open scoring record rolled 3 feet past the hole Saturday. Her par attempt to tie Helen Alfredsson’s record of 63 – set in 1994 at Indianwood Golf and Country Club – horseshoed the lip.

She walked off the 18th green at Lancaster Country Club and signed a few autographs, still smiling. A 64 at the U.S. Women’s Open isn’t too shabby. Besides, Choi did set one record Saturday: Her front-nine score of 29 is the lowest score in Women’s Open history. Five players have shot 30, including Brittany Lincicome as an amateur in 2004.
