Carlos Ortiz and younger brother both suffer golfing misfortune on Friday

HONOLULU – If the saving grace to his round of 72 Thursday to start the Sony Open was the knowledge his brother had played beautifully at the Latin America Amateur Championship, Carlos Ortiz faced a double dose of disappointment Friday.

Not only did Carlos shoot 71 to miss the halfway cut, but shortly after his round at Waialae CC, he discovered that things had gone badly for his younger brother. Alvaro Ortiz, a member of the golf team at Arkansas, ballooned from T-1 to T-27 at the Latin America Amateur with a round of 79 at Teeth of the Dog in the Dominican Republic.
