WINDERMERE, Fla. — Two-time Cy Young Award winner Bret Saberhagen scored 25 points Thursday in the Diamond Resorts Invitational to take a two-point lead in the modified Stableford event for celebrity athletes and entertainers.
Players receive six points for eagle, three for birdie, one for par, zero for bogey and minus-2 for double bogey and higher.
Saberhagen had an eagle-birdie-birdie-birdie run on Nos. 2-5 on his second nine at the Golden Bear Club at Keene's Point in the inaugural 54-hole event.
Former tennis champion Mardy Fish was second. Former hockey star Mike Modano and major leaguer Phil Nevin were three points behind Saberhagen.
