BMW PGA Championship facing possible disruption from Wentworth Residents Association

The European Tour’s flagship BMW PGA Championship could face severe disruption because of the increasingly antagonistic dispute between Wentworth Golf Club and its members.

The Wentworth Residents Association (WRA), representing the estate’s 1,100 households, is objecting to activities used to stage and promote the $5.5 million tournament to be held over Wentworth’s West Course from May 26-29. The residents’ group has hinted at legal action if such activities take place.

In a 15-page letter to Wentworth from lawyers representing members and residents, objections have been raised to the erection of tents and marquees, advertising boards to promote the tournament, a Mike and the Mechanics rock concert to be held on Saturday, May 28 after the conclusion of the third round, and road closures during the tournament.
