Andy Sullivan, Justin Rose raise English hopes after first round of British Open

TROON, Scotland – England awaits a British Open winner. Could it happen this week in Scotland?

Andy Sullivan and Justin Rose are in pole position to deliver the first English champion since Nick Faldo at Muirfield in 1992. Danny Willett followed Faldo as Masters winner this year. Could Rose or Sullivan follow suit in the game’s original tournament?

Sullivan leads the English charge. Playing in the group behind first-round leader Phil Mickelson, Sullivan shot 4-under 67 at Royal Troon Golf Club. Mickelson, the 2013 Open champion, came within a lipout putt on the final hole of shooting the lowest round in major-championship history.
