Afternoon rally puts U.S. on top at PGA Cup

SAN MARTIN, Calif. — The United States roared back from a dismal morning session, getting three-and-a-half of a possible four points in Friday afternoon’s foursomes session to take a 4-1/2 to 3-1/2 lead at the 27th PGA Cup at CordeValle.

The PGA Cup is an international match-play competition featuring a team of club and teaching professionals from the United States against Great Britain and Ireland. The U.S. has never lost at home, leads the overall series 17-5-4, and has dropped just one match since 1984.

Trailing after the morning four-balls, 3-1, the U.S. rose back up by a pair of lopsided victories in the afternoon.
