Warriors Avoid Elimination, Pull Away Late For 120-111 Win Over Thunder

The Golden State Warriors came into Game 6 off back-to-back losses, and they made sure they weren't going to end their record-setting season with three straight defeats. They pulled away late for the 120-111 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, and now trail 3-2 in the series.

Golden State played like their backs were against a wall, using a 15-5 run in the first quarter to build a double-digit lead. The Thunder managed to keep the game relatively close, but still trailed 58-50 at halftime.

Oklahoma City continued their strong play in the third quarter, and 15-7 run gave them their first lead of the game at 68-67. That lead was short lived as the Warriors took it back on the next possession, going on a 22-9 run of their own to build their biggest lead of the night (12 points).

They later extended that lead to 13 and looked to have the game in hand, but a furious late spurt from the Thunder cut the lead to six with 35 seconds left. However, two free throws from Stephen Curry sealed the win for the Warriors.

Curry led Golden State with 31 points, six assists and seven rebounds. Klay Thompson (25 points) and Draymond Green (11 points, 13 rebounds) also played vital roles in the victory. Marreese Speights added 14 points off the bench.

Russell Westbrook (31 points, seven assists, six rebounds) and Kevin Durant (40 points, seven rebounds) put forth tremendous efforts for OKC, but shot poorly (23/59 combined) and didn't get any help from their teammates. Serge Ibaka (13 points) was the only other player in double figures.

Game 6 will be back in Oklahoma City on Saturday as the Warriors try to fight off elimination again. Tip off is set for 9:00 pm ET on TNT.
