Timberwolves Knock Off Warriors 124-117 In Stunning Comeback Win In Overtime

The Minnesota Timberwolves trailed by 17 points in the third quarter, but rallied to defeat the Golden State Warriors in overtime. The Timberwolves (26-52) outscored the Warriors (69-9) by eight in the four quarter and seven in overtime to beat the Warriors 124-117. The Warriors must now finish the season 4-0 to set the NBA record for most wins in an NBA season and 3-1 to tie the record.

The Timberwolves tied the game at 96 with 6:18 left and again at 106 with 19 seconds left, which was enough to force overtime. In OT, the Timberwolves took their first lead since the first quarter and never gave it up. The Warriors had won 114 straight games when leading by 15 or more. After winning 54 straight at home, the Warriors have now lost two of their last three.

Turnovers killed the Warriors, as they coughed it up 23 times in the game. The normally poor 3-point shooting Timberwolves hit 8 of 17 3-pointers.

Stephen Curry had just two points at the half and didn't make a shot from the field until the third quarter. And yet, Curry posted a double-double with 21 points and 15 assists. He had 12 points in the third quarter alone, but was just 7 of 25 from the field and 4 of 13 from beyond the arc.

All five Warriors' starter had at least 10 points, the first time that's happened since Golden State played Minnesota in November. With Curry having an off shooting night early, Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes helped pick up the slack. Thompson had 28 and Barnes dropped 20, but both cooled off in the fourth quarter and OT. Andrew Bogut had a double-double with 10 point and 15 rebounds.

Shabazz Muhammad had a huge game off the bench for the Timberwolves, putting up 35 points. Karl Anthony-Towns had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Five T-Wolves had double figures, including Andrew Wigging putting up 32. His shot forced overtime and he played great down the stretch.

The Warriors look for win No. 70 Thursday when they host the San Antonio Spurs. The Timberwolves visit the Sacramento Kings Thursday.
