OAKLAND — After serving as an Warriors’ assistant coach in the past three years, Willie Green left the Warriors’ coaching staff and plans to work as an assistant coach with the Phoenix Suns, a league source confirmed to Bay Area News Group. NBC Sports Bay Area first reported the news.
Green plans to start immediately with the Suns, including helping out with the team’s summer-league team in Las Vegas (July 5-15). Green will have a larger assistant coaching role under newly hired coach Monty Williams and have a new task in coaching a rebuilding team.
The Warriors viewed Green as a rising star in the coaching ranks after hiring him in 2016 to replace former assistant Luke Walton when he became the Los Angeles Lakers’ head coach for three seasons.
