In a perfect world, Kobe Bryant would have been at Stanford on Monday night to see Sabrina Ionescu, Oregon’s wildly talented basketball wunderkind, make history.
Instead, Ionescu, and everyone who knew, wished to know and admired Bryant, were thrown into an imperfect circumstance.

Her day? There may be no words to adequately describe what that was like. Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-daughter were memorialized by artists and basketball glitterati. Ionescu, born in Walnut Creek, counted Bryant and his daughter GiGi among her friends. Last summer she helped Kobe coach his daughter’s basketball team. She worked out with Gigi.
