Warriors respond to injuries and defections with a zone defense

SAN FRANCISCO — Saddled with the league’s worst defense, Warriors coach Steve Kerr has been experimenting as he searches for solutions.

With long, savvy defenders like Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston no longer with the team, the Warriors have responded to its relative shortage of length and experience by scrapping it’s aggressive switching scheme and implementing more basic defensive principles. That includes a zone defense.

“We’ve played more zone this year than we’ve played in the past,” Kerr said. “Some of it is the injuries, and some of it is just experimental just to see what it looks like for us.
