Warriors’ NBA trophy making the rounds in players’ hometowns

The itinerary was demanding, but doable — especially since so many people’s happiness depended on it.

Flight from Oakland to Chicago, then long drives on Thursday to Peoria, Ill., and then to Ames, Iowa, for a Fourth of July parade Saturday. People smiling ear to ear at every stop.

Larry — the Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy — makes lifelong friends with everyone the first time they meet.

“I just love having my arm around it,” Warriors forward Harrison Barnes said.

Barnes, “still riding the high” of Golden State winning the NBA title last month, was the grand marshal of his hometown Ames’ Fourth of July parade.
