The D’Angelo Russell experiment was doomed from the start

SAN FRANCISCO — Consciously dressed in black and blue, D’Angelo Russell stepped off a private jet Thursday night into the embrace of his longtime friend Karl-Anthony Towns and his new life in Minneapolis. It was, for all parties involved, a moment of needed progress.

For Russell, Thursday’s trade to the Timberwolves sent him to an organization that truly covets him. For the Warriors, they acknowledged they needed to move on from a talented, although flawed player, and re-establish their identity with Andrew Wiggins.
