After an intriguing offseason, the Golden State Warriors began their preseason campaign with a matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers in the Rose City. Fans in the building, and those of us who didn’t have the game blacked out on TV, were treated to a fairly standard preseason game, featuring flashes of brilliance interspersed with sloppiness and rust. But the biggest draw wasn’t the outcome (a 121-107 Dubs win) or the superstars who took the floor (Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard among them). No, the night belonged to Jordan Poole, who picked up right where he left off at the end of last season with a scintillating performance at the Moda Center.
