OAKLAND — Former Baylor standout Nuni Omot sat along the baseline of the Warriors’ downtown Oakland facility excited.

The 23-year-old had just completed his fifth pre-draft workout as he continued working toward a basketball dream that is far from his unusual upbringing.

Omot’s family was forced to leave their native Ethiopia during a civil war with Eritrea in the early 1990s. As a result, Omot was born in a Kenyan refugee camp in 1994. Seeking a better life, Omot and his mother, older brother and younger sister relocated to Minnesota with help from the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service in 1996.
