More than 50,000 people have signed a petition asking the Warriors not to visit White House

In less than two weeks since the Golden State Warriors won the 2017 NBA Championship, more than 50,000 people have signed a petition asking the team not to accept a possible invite to visit the White House.

"NBA players have made powerful statements against racism and injustice in the past few years," the petition reads. "Now is a time for athletes to step up even more."

Visiting the White House is something of an inconsistent tradition for professional sports teams who have won major trophies; as ABC reports, around 12 professional and collegiate sports teams visit the White House every year.
