Meet your new Warriors starting center (at least for now): Kevon Looney

SAN FRANCISCO — Kevon Looney’s Warriors stock has gradually ascended. During his first two seasons, he scrapped for minutes. By last summer, he was an invaluable piece.

His next role? Starter.

Fresh off signing a three-year, $15 million deal to stay with Golden State, Looney will, for the time being, man the five-slot for the Warriors — a promotion due as much to circumstance as to Looney’s productivity.

General manager Bob Myers kicked off media day by announcing that Willie Cauley-Stein will miss training camp due to a left mid-foot strain. With Cauley-Stein out of commission, Looney was the rightful candidate to assume the starting center responsibilities come opening night.
