Bay Area-based rocker to sing national anthem before Warriors tip off Game 1 of NBA Finals

Pat Monahan will sing the national anthem before Game 1 of the NBA Finals at Oracle Arena.

The NBA announced Wednesday morning that Monahan, the lead singer of the San Francisco-born band Train, will handle the honors before the Warriors face the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday.

Monahan is best known for singing hits like “Hey, Soul Sister” and “Drops of Jupiter.”

His band has at least one other tie to the Oakland sports scene: Train’s new video for “Drink Up” features Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch in a prominent role.
