Aspirations: Warriors 126, Cavaliers 91

My daughters and I started the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend by checking out Hidden Figures, the film about three extraordinarily gifted and talented African American women—Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson—who worked for NASA and played crucial if unsung roles in John F. Kennedy’s Space Race of the early 60’s. This fantastic film blends the dramatic struggle of the Civil Rights movement with the glamorously exciting and lofty accomplishments of NASA’s space program at a time when the whole nation was fully engaged an urgent quest to be the first to establish a presence in space.
