I must’ve been driving to the Sur. Driving somewhere. It was February 2018. And when I flipped on the radio, I landed in the middle of a Terry Gross “Fresh Air” interview. Didn’t know who the interviewee was, but was immediately drawn into the story he was telling. He was describing watching the Golden Globe Awards with Steve Bannon.

Bannon, according to the interviewee, was mesmerized by the theater and, pointing to the screen, immediately recognized it as a formidable “backlash” against Trumpism and in fact a threat to Bannon’s whole political philosophy.
