Ten Things 99% Of America Doesn't Know About The Golden State Warriors

You know 2014-15 NBA MVP Steph Curry. You probably know his Splash Brothers partner, Klay Thompson. You may know that the Warriors' fans like to dress in yellow, causing you to have double vision after watching an hour or so of their home games.

But, do you really KNOW the Golden State Warriors?

The Warriors are on their way to their first NBA Finals appearance in 40 years after eliminating the Houston Rockets in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals on Wednesday. They'll match up with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavs in what promises to be one of the most fun showdowns in the history of ever.

However, before you get your snacks ready and clear your calendar for next Thursday's Game 1, we thought we'd help you out with a primer on the team from the mythical "Golden State."

Chat Sports is HQ'd in San Francisco, and we have been amazed this season at the pure lack of knowledge regarding the Bay Area's beloved Dubs from friends around the country, and even some who live in California.

So, here's our list of Ten Things We Are Convinced That 99% Of America Doesn't Know About The Golden State Warriors.

1. They play their games in Oakland. No, seriously...

That's pretty much what most of Oakland looks like, in case you were wondering...

2. Oakland is 5 miles away from San Francisco...

3. ..which is nowhere near Los Angeles.

4. Just to be clear, this isn't the Warriors' first year in the NBA.

Don't believe us?

Look at this old picture...

and this one...

and this one!

Unless those pictures have been doctored somehow (and we're guessing Latrell Sprewell and his 90s get-up wishes it was so), this team has been around for awhile.

Did you know that?? We're betting you didn't.

5. Three of America's largest cities claim the Warriors as their own...

San Jose (1,015,785 people, #10)

San Francisco (852,469 people, #13)

Oakland (413,775 people, #45)

6. The Warriors have been to the playoffs before...

See that? That happened LAST YEAR! The Golden State Warriors took the Los Angeles Clippers to seven games in the Western Conference Quarterfinals, falling in Game 7 at Staples Center by a count of 126-121.

Oh and by the way...

They won a playoff series the year before, beating the Denver Nuggets in six games!

Yes, the Nuggets have also been to the playoffs. That's an entirely different article though...

7. The Warriors are moving to swank new digs in San Francisco come 2018...

8. ...which is great because they currently play at Oracle Arena -- the oldest arena currently in use in the NBA (est. 1966)

9. Warriors owner Joe Lacob spent some serious dough on the franchise...

Lacob plopped down $450 million when he bought the franchise from Chris Cohan back in 2010 -- the highest sale price in NBA history at the time. To put that into perspective, Cohan spent just $119 million when he acquired the team back in 1995.

Don't worry about Lacob or his pocketbook though...

10. Lacob made his fortune as a venture capitalist at Kleiner Perkins, investing early in companies like AutoTrader.com and Sportsline.

You know AutoTrader.com by their commercials which are EVERYWHERE.
